Need advice on how to remove the smoke units from my 6200. Worst nightmare! I had a house fire, lost most of my trains and am trying to salvage some. In order to clean and wash the smoke residue off the shell I need to remove these. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

They just push up and out. The Seuthe style smoke units are tapered so again, they just got pushed into the boiler through the top down into the inside of the boiler.

Obviously be careful with the epoxy blob around the wires as that is how they are manufactured.

Sorry to hear of your fire and damage. That said, you also could just clean in place, soap and water would not hurt them. They are just a ceramic or fiberglass rod with resistance wire wrapped up around that central post.

Thanks for the reply John. I have tried, there’s 4 of them. Haven’t been able to get any out. Maybe the heat did something to it? I have already washed it. They will need to be removed eventually because it will have to be repainted. That’s for another day. For now it’s cleaned and I got the frame running! So in a box, I have many more to clean and test.

thank you

John
