Honestly wondering the same thing. Looks like a lot of fairly modern offerings by the looks of the lighting plugs sticking out of many of them.

They are all modern - bodies from conventional classic, TMCC and legacy engines.
I believe even some heritage shells mixed in. There is a beautiful set or two of TMCC scale Santa Fe F3 shells
Looks like Charlie won the service dept auction.

I don't work for Lionel, BUT it has been written on this forum that Lionel obtains parts for their service department by ordering extras on their product production runs, and then disassembling them when they arrive stateside. Mike Reagan alluded to this some years ago, as did Jerry Calabrese in an interview, when he was then head of Lionel.

Sell O shells by the seashore?
I'm sorry.
I'm very curious if I could use one or two of these shells for my pair of MPC era diesels. I have what I think are a GP8 and a SD28. The SD28 is really rough, the GP8 just has a homemade paint job and it shows up close. They both run great, just wish they looked better.
i dont have any shells for either of those chassis sorry
That Missouri Pacific GP-20 I see in the foreground in the first picture will fit the SD28 chassis. The shell may need the end mounting screw hole drilled, but that's easy.

Good catch by Chuck. That's a Lionel No. 28500 shell from 1999, and will fit any traditional SD/GP chassis. It didn't have an end mounting screw, so drilling the hole will be necessary, but as Chuck says, that's simple.
