My projects are on hold for the moment. Waiting on some deliveries and announcements. Definitely a steam guy but I'm excited about the prospect of a Sunset/3rd Rail Alco PA. I've posted some comments here:

Until then I've been chewing over final options given the small area I have available for a layout. Needs to be pretty compact. I've finally decided on a design for my multi-scale, multi-tiered layout. Simple loops (Atlas O 90,81,72,63, Bachmann HO R28, R26, R22, R22) with some areas to which I can add natural landscapes, trees, water, rock, bridges etc. The largest outer 90 will be a dual purpose 3R/2R set up so I can start running some 2R brass, larger 3R steamers, or long passenger car trains.

I think I would enjoy running it in 3 rail.
There's still Lionel Legacy versions to be had but it's the level of detail Scott might bring that intrigues me.
Depending on how it's offered I might have to pick up a 3 rail set of yellow Harrimans to run behind it.
I'd like to see it similar to this 1997 O scale 2-rail offering from OMI-Ajin:

That source from whom you and I scored several steamers still has one of these OMI-Ajin 2R PA's but I'm hoping Sunset/3rd Rail really comes through.

Everytime I talk myself out of buying an H-7 you go and post something like this! Beautiful locomotive.
There is one serious problem with it.....
.......a weathered locomotive like that screams to be run on a layout with great scenery behind it. not sitting on a shelf!
Just when I think two rail is the way to go "you" ( Aaron) go and post that H7.

I just couldn't resist taking it out for a few more pictures. The skill and patience of someone who can model to this detail is just amazing to me. I've found I like to keep it out and just look at it. Maybe someday we'll see a new modern TTT release....

That first pic is very impressive. All of that horse power together! I love those giant UP locomotives as well. You need a DD40 in the mix.

Yep....it had to go. Maybe you remember or not, it was the featured layout in Run 255 a few years ago. Too many duckunders, hidden areas, pop-ups and no real place for the trains to go except around in circles. The new and improved version will be much better...much better....stayed tuned.

I just learned how, recently. Place your cursor at the location in your text block where you would like the photo to appear, click on "Add Attachments" below the lower right hand corner of the text block, upload your photo and then click on the phrase "insert into post body" which appears in the lower left hand corner of the "Attachment Box" - the box that appears below the text block with a thumbnail of your photo and it's data.
To get rid of the redundant "Attachment Boxes" on your finalized post, one of which will appear for each photo you upload, check the blank marked "Collapse Attachment Box" which appears below the "Signature" option in the blue area below the text block.
It's rather complicated and I had to edit a topic (several times) that I posted today because I bollixed it up. However, these are very useful tools and you'll get a great product, once you get the hang of it.

Having begun my career as a CNW Brakeman (45 years ago on the Galena and Wisconsin Divisions), I have been resentful of the UP since the 1996 merger and the disappearance of all things NorthWestern. However, I finally could resist no longer and bought a new Lionel No. 844 plus a few passenger cars to go with it - now, I've subscribed to this UP Topic. My resolve has been broken.
My career took me east to other railroads but there was, of course, a special place for the CNW in my heart. Now that we have so few major railroads, the UP is the only one that has maintained its corporate identity and that plus the "Heritage" program have endeared it to me. Having taken the plunge, or at least dipped my toes in the water, it has occurred to me that I could now justify a CNW Dash 9 to pull the UP Excursion/Business Train...

Love to see those pics. There are many great hobbyists on ths thread. Some of us who have been posting for a while are currently waiting for the next batch of finds or progress in projects.
Having grown up in Dupage county I've been fond of the CNW watching the line along Lombard / Glen Ellyn / Wheaton. I'm a big CNW fan too, but difficult to find the quantity and quality of desirable items in O scale. Plus like most things in life one tends to stick with what you started with as a kid. Most of my early stuff was UP. Which could easily explain why I'm a White Sox fan and a life-time sufferer for my beloved Bears.
Hopefully I should have some nice GGD items and some upgraded 2rail locomotives to post soon.

HA! There are no coincidences! I grew up in DuPage County, too! Wayne! However, when I was ten, we moved just across the line into Kane County, only about half a mile outside of the Wayne village limits. We had the CNW, CA&E, EJ&E and the IC all within easy reach. My folks were deeply involved in forming the Illinois Prairie Path, therefore, I also spent many hours train watching in Wheaton.
My first railroad experience was at RELIC, as a volunteer, and my first assignment as a Brakeman on the NorthWestern (Galena Div.), in June 1969, was "The Belvidere Job" which went to work at West Chicago Yard, tied up in Belvidere, and returned when we were rested to tie up at "WestWeGo". As you know, the Belvidere Sub runs through Wayne, South Elgin (RELIC) and Union (IRM - then a siding with a couple of very defunct cars sitting on it) en route to the Chrysler Plant.
By the time I became a CNW Brakeman, I was in college and my folks moved to Geneva, therefore, I commuted from Geneva to "The Ramp" at Proviso through Glen Ellyn and Lombard where, many years later, my parents ended their days at Beacon Hill. While visiting my parents in Lombard, I split my train watching between the CNW and "Da Q" in Downers Grove. Thanks to my CNW employment and very junior status on the Extra Board, I had the privilege of working the "Sycamore Job" on the CGW and what was left of the CNS&M in addition to all the relevant CNW lines, many of which are also gone.
I've not visited Wayne in many years and, therefore, have never seen the CNW depot at it's present location. When I was a kid, the station was tucked away in the woods behind the Dunham Castle and very much off limits. However, thanks to BasicBill, I can now have the experience vicariously. We certainly didn't move this fast with our GP7s:

Thank you for the warm welcome. I try to split the difference between "scale" and "3rail" in order to enjoy the benefits of both. The scale product lines offered by Lionel, MTH, Atlas and GGD make it relatively easy to straddle the fence at a price I can almost afford. I look forward to reviewing earlier postings and seeing whatever new stuff comes our way.

Small world. Last time I saw the Dunham Castle was more than 15 years ago when I worked in St Charles. Someone was renovating it. But that is for another thread.

UP rules on my layout. Although, since I live here in beautiful North West Florida I do have a couple of CSX locomotives. It's rare to see a UP loco around here, but I have family in NW Arkansas. I always stop off in Little Rock where they have a DD40 on display at the maintenance facility. And the video of the UP snow plow was cool...lol, I'll never see that kind of action here in Florida.
Hoping to invent an "adaptive use" for an otherwise use-less MILW Astro-Dome, I am exploring the world of sand castings in aluminum to reproduce the "blunt end obs" using the car-end casting from a Lionel 6-20011, aptly named "Baldy Mountain" since that pretty well describes me.
The questions I place respectfully before this august assembly are 1.) do any of you have experience with having parts reproduced, and 2.) who makes paints that will accurately match Lionel's versions of Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Grey? Details linked below:

Sorry, been away a bit. Can't say I can help you on that one but I would like to see pictures here when you're done!
I've discovered that having a tighter budget combined with a more demanding expectation for accuraccy has forced me to make some really tough choices. Now it seems I'm coming across a whole slew of items I've been long searching for and the lack of extra cash is murder on decision making!
