Can someone help me out with this? I am in the process of converting a Lionel Virginian diesel engine from conventional to command control. I will be using an Electric RR Company AC Commander board and their rail sounds board.  I have two options regarding the smoke unit to use. I purchased a MTH fan driven smoke unit  from RTR trains which should be wired using track power. The problem is that I will not be able to control the smoke using the handheld and it is either on or off. The AC board has a port for a smoke unit input but I am afraid to use the MTH board as I don't want to blow out the board. There is a Lionel fan driven smoke unit (6SP-8590-028) that uses 27 OHM's and might be a better choice so I can run using the ERR board. Or is there another unit that might work with the board.  Is there anybody out there that can give me a hand with this.

If you are using the MTH PS/1 unit, connect it directly to the smoke output of the AC Commander.  If you have a different unit, let us know what you have.

Thanks GUNRUNNERJOHN for getting back to me. The MTH smoke board should be arriving this week. I also ordered a Lionel 6SP8590028 Fan Driven Smoke Unit Square/Diesel/27OHM from Lionel. My thoughts are that the 027 ohm's might be less stress on the ERR AC commander board. Any thoughts?

Well, the 27 ohm probably will be lower current, and with all the recommend mods, you can get decent smoke out of them,  You won't get MTH smoke, but decent smoke.
