Marty,

Lot of stuff for sale. Waiting to hear what folks bought and what price they paid for their new toy or toys. I would have taken the drive to there but the question still remains, Do I really need to buy more trains? I really want a 2nd car, like a 5 speed Ford Mustang to drive and play with.

I was telling Howard that question at York when I said my collection is at ... Both had a good laugh!

Hope everyone who attends add something to their kingdom of trains.

I didn’t buy too much! Two packs of the trackside accessories for $12.00each. A nice PRR x-31 round roof box car for $20.00.  All five of the Pennsylvania Diesel years books for $2.00 each. And lastly a Lionscale NYC box car for $20.00. I knew the weights were loose when I bought it. But what I didn’t know was that one of the trucks was off and that on the other one the coupler will not close. Looks like I will have to replace both couplers. Glad I didn’t pay too much.

I counted three pre-teen boys and one girl teenager in all those pics.  That probably doesn't bode well for the future.

There were kids there. I wouldn't use this to gauge the Hobby.

I thought I saw more children than that , even a mom with an infant. My impression was there were quite a few families and the crowd seemed younger than York. . I arrived about 15 minutes after the doors opened. There was aline to get in and the place was quite packed. A lot of wagons filled to thebrim with product, Seemed like Costco. LCCA seems to have a younger demographic it would seem.

I managed to avail myself of a few of thos e$2 Morning Sun books, a Lionchief plus RS-3 Boston and Maine , about 8 cars from the $20 table and a pair of road houses plus some Christmas ornaments and Christmas cards. I have been there on a Saturday and sundae in prior years. There are always parents or grandparents with children.

In the past  lionel had more layouts with displays and trains running. Be nice to see that next time.

Marty thanks for posting the pics. I spotted my Misses in one of the photos handling the cart with my goodies.

I saw quite a few youngsters digging through the 10 dollar car pile...that was really a neat thing to see.......they were small enough to worm up in there past the fellas trying to take over the table.....I stood back and watched as one kid slipped up in and grabbed a caboose he was eyeballing from the other side of the table....he was so dang happy you couldn’t have knocked the smile off his face with a brick.....priceless!...My son was with me, he was filling up the cart with what he wanted......he had a blast too!.......Pat

What kind of items were for sale? Mostly traditional and scale? Any Christmas or PE stuff? How about the heavyweight cars with truck problems?

Paul most of the PE stuff was non scale although I did find the PE RPO cars there for I think $130. I got a couple of non scale cars. I saw a few of 21" cars but I did not see scale Polar passenger cars but they might have been bagged before I saw them.

How come when people post pictures of the Lionel sale they don't show any prices to let the people that did not go see what they missed. If I know what kind of deals they had maybe I would drive down the 10 hour trip.

If you're only looking for a deal then don't drive the 10 hours. It probably won't be worth it to you. It's a crap shoot of what they have. If you want to have fun with friends while heading down and take a shot on what maybe there it might be worth it. I could take all pictures of pricing and next year the same stuff isn't offered. This year 2 of our guys went down hoping for some Scale engines and there were very few. They came home without buying anything but smoke fluid but when we got home they were having me make reservations for next year because we had fun.

If you want pictures of pricing, you might want to come down and take some.  I took pictures of the event.

This is our 4th time and I can say that everyone from Lionel does such a wonderful job. Everyone was so nice and genuinely gracious.  Thanks Lionel! Another great time for everyone in our group! What a facility too.  Large, clean, and shelves of product waiting to go out

I saw lots of families there both days.  Several shopping carts were full of starter sets and add-on track and accessories.  There seemed to be more interest in the non-scale stuff this year.  I did see a few recently released scale steamers but these weren't service dept refurbished ones, they were brand new in the box.  I noticed the newly released Texas class Pennsy J1 #6500 for $1050.00 and the C&O T1 #3039 for $1200.00.  They also had two of the recently released Challengers for sale as well.  The UP #3949 and the Clinchfield #675 and I believe the price on those was $1400 each.  By late morning on Saturday both Challengers were gone tho.  Smoke fluid for $3.00 a bottle all scents and unscented.  A great time again and look forward to next year!

I went to Trainfest over the weekend.  LOTS of really-interested young kids, and a pretty good showing of teens and twenty-somethings.   Of course, HO and N, especially used, can be had for a lot less money.
