I once read about a good Lionel ZW 275 Watt Transformer repair service located in a western Chicago suburb. I seem to recall they even advertised same day drop off and pick up. Does anyone know of such a place? I would drop off my transformer personally and not ship it.

I think he passed away sometime back! It was KENS TRANSFORMER REPAIR!!
That’s him alright! I had a Hobby Shop in Lisle , Illinois & he did all my Transformer Repairs! I’ll never forget I called him about 3 Years ago and asked him if he worked on the ZW-C’s . He said no, he didn’t get involved in that Electronic Crap !! I think he passed away about 2 Years ago !! Too bad, he was a whizz at ZW’s, Z’s & KW’s. And he warranted them for a year after repairing !!!! I still have 2 of his Z’s in boxes & using another one I purchased from him, on my Layout for Accessories & Lights!!
Thanks to all of you. sorry to her this. but I
guess we all have out transformers die out at one time or another.
There is a hobby shop in Itasca, IL. I have filled out a form on their website re service. I have not heard back from them. Are they a good source to "tune up" a ZW 275 Watt Transformer? I don't want to drive there 3 hours and lug along a transformer if they don't do that kind of work.
Unless the coil in the transformer burns out, everything else can be replaced.
Complete rebuild and those transformers will last another 75 years!
I am a bit tardy but I wanted to pass on I did take my ZW Transformer to America's Best Train, Toy & Hobby Shop in Itasca, Illinois. They did a very good job. It runs like a top again. Were nice and easy people to deal with. They have a great store with lots of "stuff" and supplies as well. And the price was right too.
When I was building my layout a few years ago and adding scenery and refurnishing a lot of old running stock I bought Palmer's Olive Oil Formula and I still have some spray bottles left over. Problem is I can't recall why I bought such and what it was used for. Could someone please jog my memory. Thanks.
