I just got a brand new lionel zwl transformer, and while I primarily run tmcc/legacy engines, I do have some conventional engines that I like to run from time to time. Is it possible to run command and conventional on the same zwl, or would I have to run my conventional engines off of a separate transformer or something like that.

The transformer will power both just fine. But, remember you would have to have completely separate tracks(two tracks) to run conventional on one and command on the other. One track powered by, for example, A-U, and the second by, D-U. They will share outside rail grounds(commons) but not middle rail power. Hope this helps.
Note that you can also run conventional from your remote using the built-in PowerMaster features of the ZW-L.

Yes, that’s right. You just need to program the ZW-L as either an engine or track and then address it with the remote. You put the conventional engine on the track, raise the power on the ZW-L, raise the power to the track and hit the direction button. For command engines you do basically the same thing.
BTW: What type of Powermasters are they. Legacy or TMCC ones.
