Yep, the Cruise Commander M is a perfect upgrade if you're having Odyssey issues.

catnap, TAS EOB runs best in REL100 mode for the CAB2, that's how I run mine.  You are correct, TMCC only has 32 steps.  The reason it does Odyssey I better is the old CAB1 (or REL100) sends out controls in relative mode, not specific commanded speed steps like TMCC or Legacy control.

I tried R100 mode on my CAB2 and the only differences I could see with my EOB engines was that BOOST increased the loco's speed until it was released and BRAKE brought it to a stop. Also, if I remember correctly, the current speed step was displayed in the lower right corner of the screen along with a speed graph, kind of similar to LEGACY mode.

Up until last week when I got my 990 Command Set I was running my trains with the LEGACY CAB1-L. My Atlas engines ran fine so I run them in the same mode with my CAB2. The BOOST/BRAKE thumbwheel increases and decreases the loco's speed by 1 speed step and that wasn't a feature I noticed running in R100 with the CAB2.

I like that option in addition to the Velocity Throttle for controlling my EOB-equipped engines. Plus, my locomotives don't inadvertently give a blast of the horn like they did with my CAB1-L if I pressed either the BOOST/BRAKE button without the 1 second delay between button taps. The CAB2 BOOST/BRAKE thumbwheel allows me to increase/decrease speed as quickly as I can roll it up or down.
