Jon, I’ll try to get some better pictures next time I go through Jamaica.

It’s the gray and orange units with the Dashing Dan logo I was looking at!

I last rode the LIRR in the mid sixties. Grew up with it from 1942-1962. Many fond memories! Attended Adelphi College and rode the LIRR from Woodhaven to Nassau Blvd in Garden City 1960-61.
From 1961-62, I rode the LIRR from the Hempstead Terminal to Nassau Blvd after we moved to Hicksville. My dad drove me to Hempstead to catch the train to Garden City.

I only finished two years as a chem major before taking a break and enlisting in the US Army for CBR training. I was barely 17 when I started at Adelphi in January, 1960.
Another grade crossing bites the dust.
Urban Avenue Crossing elimination. Amazing to see the entire structure rolled into place. The road was opened this week. Just 6 weeks after the bridge was set in place.
Absolutely amazing Bob! Thanks for posting.

These guys are making this look easy....
Another grade crossing eliminated. This is New Hyde Park Road connecting Garden City to New Hyde Park.

And another recent overpass replacement to accommodate the third track.
Couple of great time lapse videos of the bridge moves in this one (scroll down)

Very cool, and just amazing what can be done with modern technology construction equipment'....
Haven't posted anything here for a while. The LIRR is making great progress on the project. I was at the supermarket this morning and caught some new rail sections being prepped for offloading.
After four years of construction — and about 70 years of planning and debate — the Long Island Rail Road's $2.6 billion Third Track is set to go into service.
