I have been a participant here for a long time, since startup.  Needless to say,I enjoy this forum.

Recently I purchased a new laptop with the latest Windows operating system.  Much to my chagrin,I was not able to login here and also in some other forums that I participate in.  I tried Chrome,Firefox and Edge with no success.  I spoke with Alan about this and found out that there are some blocks out there for groups such as ours that have been placed with the newer systems.

Fortunately,I came home with my old desktop and I was able to join up,no problems.

Now I am leery about a new desktop with a new Windows system included.

Has anyone experienced this problem?  Is there an easy solution?

What EXACTLY does, “…not able to login here and also in some other forums…” mean? What was the specific problem?

This is just a web site that uses a login and password. There’s nothing special about that. I’m not aware of any “blocks” in Windows that would prevent a login here. I log in here with Windows 7, Windows 10, a mid-2010 MAC running Sierra, my IPad and even my IPhone without any issues.

Since this affected more than one forum, this is more likely some setting on your computer.

I put my password in as directed and it is not recognized.  There are 2 Corvette forums that give me the same results.  I changed my password there with the same results.

I really do not care about the car forums (they also work on my desktop),but would like access to this one when I travel.

I guess that I will have to explore that HP a little closer.

Thanks for your suggestions and help.

Norm,

As others have said the issue you are seeing has nothing to do with the site, it is a setting local to your PC. Since it is happening on all browsers my guess is you have a 3rd party security/anti virus program that game with your PC on top of Windows 11 built in Security. This software may be blocking the cookie and/or the session token that is required for signing into this site as well as your forums for Vettes.

@NYCGreg68,

Good suggestion.  I think I recall the OP said it was an HP.  I have 3 HP laptops, and they all came with antivirus stuff installed and running on first power up.  I didn't want them, so I removed the included one on all.  On Win10 machines I installed my preferred AV.  On my Win11 laptop, I'm using the built in Win11 security since it has decent recommendations.

Try this... For Firefox Add websites to your Allow list. (similar settings in other browsers)

  1. Go to the site you want to add to your Allow list.
  2. Tap the shield icon next to the address bar.
  3. Tap the switch next to Enhanced Tracking Protection to turn off protection for that site.

Another spot to check is within the Firewall settings (usually, Windows Defender for Windows machines) where you can specify 'Trusted' Domains... i.e., OGR and the Vette sites.

@Norm what is the exact error message you are getting when you try to login?

Posting a screen shot could help too.  You can use the snipping tool to do this.

1) load the website giving you a problem
2) try to log in where you get the error
3) hit the "windows" key (should be between Ctrl and Alt) and then type "snipping"
4) click on the snipping tool
5) click the "New" button on the snipping tool
6) draw a box around the page with the error
7) save the image that is captured
8) send it to your other computer using your email account (send it to yourself)
9) go to the computer that works and post it here

Should look something like this:

Thanks to all for the ideas.  I know that this site not the problem!

Just go to your login page and use a bogus password, you will get the message that I get when I use my password.

This new HP is at a remote site and I cannot get a picture.  I will work on it when I return next month.

My question was to see if anyone else experienced this type of problem with the newest Windows with a quick fix.

Now I have an idea how to proceed.  Thanks.

Norm
