I would absolutely switch to Kadees but my curves are just too tight. I know this because I have four NKP hoppers my dad gave me that have Lionel style on the end cars and link with Kadees. I do shorten many couplers and lower the cars on their trucks to the limits of my layout however because I’m somewhat fussy about that. I put a comparison pic of a passenger set I just did. I’ll do a post next time I do some.  I do actually have a pretty good pile of them from switching 2 rail cars tho. Part of the reason my friend was over last night was to talk about building a detailed 3 rail modular layout along with another local to take to shows. All kadees on it have been talked about. That should be a fun journey to put on here!

Doug "LaidOffSick" has several videos on YouTube regarding installation of Kadee equipment.  Doug has several tricks to adapt Kadees to tighter curves which include paring off the sides of the draft gear boxes to provide greater coupler swing, as demonstrated here:

First off, let me join the chorus of praise for your fantastic work.

FWIW: When I mount Kadees I use the center mounting hole and don't tighten that screw completely; it allows the coupler box to pivot and I've run stuff as tight as 24" radius without any problems. You've probably already thought of this, but I thought I would mention it anyway...

Thanks Strummer!

And I have not thought of this. That’s a great idea.

Man…now you guys got my wheels spinnin on these couplers. Thanks a lot!!! As if I didn’t have enough to do already!🤣

I watched this video in its entirety. Great stuff! I subscribed. Looks to be a wealth of information.

Thanks for the link Holmes!

Ron H. Your cab forward looks amazing! The detail in the plumbing is outstanding!

Beautiful scenery. The track is laid in perfectly!

Thank You, very much. This was a Williams cab forward. I used factory blueprints and a coupe of books to detail. Have not installed windows yet, but will, when I can figure how to do it with the cab roof in place.

Ron. I just looked at your other posts on your profile. Everything is top shelf but I especially like your locomotive detailing. I’m a sucker for NYC Hudsons but those E6s are amazing!
