On my current project I removed the body from the LC+ Hudson. Here are pictures of what is inside the loco body. The tender is empty inside except for the speaker and wires running to the electrocoupler. There are no boards. Its all in the loco.

You broke down and actually took one apart, I'm proud of you Lee!
I figured the worst that could happen is that I ruin it: nothing ventured, nothing gained. And I wanted a look inside, so I can start to think about how I might do a much more ambitious project, mounting a Lionmaster Big Boy body ontwo LC+ Mikado chassis. I'm not sure it would work, but it would be so cool if it did . . .
With all the custom stuff you've done, I seriously doubt that you'll screw a locomotive up by taking the boiler shell off.
I think if nothing else, the Big Boy body on a Mikado chassis would sure look really odd!

Actually, I have never had a patient die on the operating table, but that is partly because I am very careful. In the case of the four previous LC+ conversions, I felt it was prudent to just leave well enough alone. Of course I have done serious surgery that required removal, with the transfer of the chassis and tender guts of the Legacy ATSF 3751 to an MTH scale ATSF PS1 2900 being perhaps the most drastic project.
And the Big Boy would be on two Mikado chassis, one fixed firmly to the back chassis, the other swiveling. I know I can make it work if I remove the motor from the front chassis and make the drivers there free-wheel, but I would like to keep the motor. Not sure there is room for it to swing enough for 60 inch curves inside that LM casting.
It will be some time, if at all, before I try this. Have to buy two Mikados, etc., and think a lot. Maybe by then Lionel just brings one out . . . I can only hope.
I suspect it'll be a while before we see an LC or LC+ Big Boy. That would be a sight to see! I await that one with eager anticipation.
Of course, I have a bad record of doing upgrades, only to have Lionel steal my thunder. First, there was the Tie-Jector that I converted to command, then Lionel makes one. Then I converted a speeder to command, and Lionel promptly comes out with one of those!
They haven't made a Wienermobile yet, so maybe at least one of my creations is safe.
With your permission i think i will use your picture as screen saver or should i call it a "steam saver"
Very nice picture, Lee. I was hoping to spot the receiver antenna. Is it integral to the PC board?

Sure, sounds fun!
Lee,
Did you end up disassembling any further than the pictures show? I'm curious if the radio chip is accessible to you, and if the part number is visible on it. I've opened up a remote, but not my engine so I don't know what exactly to look for, but would guess it is a similar set up to what is used in the remote, a small, maybe ,75x.5" board with an antenna and a tiny chip on it.
If possible, and if you can read it, as it is likely to be very tiny, could you post the part number from the radio chip. It may be something like Nrf24l01 which is a very common rf microchip.
Thank you.
No, I left theclear plastic cover on and did not tamper with it - you know, if its not broke. I am not sure what is what on the board and all that . . .
All the disassembly I did (see the bashing thread) was to take the body off, move the smoke unit forward 3.8 inch in the chassis (it was clearly made to relocate to one or two or three positions), and then cut the entire cowcatcher front platform assembly off, so I can remount it 1/2 forward.
Ok, Thanks anyway.
