Anyone know where I can find the boiler front door for a K-Line K3270-5344S Scale Hudson locomotive?  I have one that got damaged in shipping, the door came open and a hinge is broken.  Here's the door I need.  Note the broken hinge, tried to glue it, but that got messy and didn't work anyway.

The headlight comes off, so all I need is the actual door.

John -

2-part epoxy, patience, black paint (good acrylic; no brush marks) and a couple of needle files will fix your door well and essentially permanently, based on the photo. Go at it from the rear, primarily; a little oozing is good - then shape it with  pointed needle file after 24 hours cure time. Little brush, black acrylic - or enamel, with this small area - in gloss/flat/satin (an overspray will bring it all together) and it's fixed.

At normal viewing distance any visible work will not be noticed.

John,

A nice Hudson, I acquired one last month for upgrade with ERR.  A nice a detailed scale engine, sorry to see this happen.  As you stated, perhaps fix/repair what you have and also locate a replacement.  Then, you will have one for "stand by" should it be necessary, always good to have in the parts bin.

D500's suggestion modified with your own...JB Weld, rather than straight epoxy...is how I'd tackle this job....once Brasseur's has been given the try.  It can be done...quite well, in fact.  Just take your time, lay out your tools, try-fit your parts, pre-plan clamping or supporting techniques/tools.

Alternatively, these are the sorts of things that make York meets interesting....the search for the elusive!

One 'good' thing about this sort of boo-boo....it's more cosmetic than functional.  IOW, the regular operation of the engine isn't dependent upon this fix.  And, it won't be subject to regular stress.....unless opening and shutting boiler front doors is a fixation/habit of the unsupervised grandkids!!!

We're looking forward to being inspired by your repairs!!

John, did you try Precision Scale? Www.precisionscaleco.com

A long shot I know but it couldn't hurt to look at their catalog which you can view on line. Of course theirs would be brass instead of die-cast. For me it wouldn't matter.

I have their catalogs, but they don't have this part, they really have more kit-bashing type of parts. I buy quite a few of their markers and class lights for upgrades.

This isn't mine, I'd probably run it like it is. However, it was sent for upgrade, and the postman wasn't kind.

That's on the list of ways to solve the problem.  I used my normally reliable Loctite 380, but it didn't bond the metal enough to withstand opening and closing, I was somewhat surprised.

John,

Any way you can check on the dimensions of the door on the Mikado boiler front?  If it is only the door needing repaired/replaced, maybe the door from the Mikado will work for you.  The headlight mount and other door details seem the same, albeit minor in the headlight mounting.

Jesse

If someone has a Mikado that will measure it for me, I'm all ears.   I just need the door, but I have no idea if the Mikado door is the same size.  Springing for the boiler front and shipping to find out it doesn't fit would annoy me.
