Looking for information on the Lionel 6418-4 16 wheel machinery car

There was a 6509 flatcar with a pair of girders. The car was grey, the girders were maroon. It was cataloged in 1981.

In the Postwar era, the car was sold with either a transformer (6518) or a pair of Girders (6418). The cars were grey. The girders came in a few different colors / markings. Check Tandem Associates for details.

Which by all accounts happens to be the same car that pro hobby pictured (the diecast passenger trucks, fast-angle wheels, and MPC-era plastic brakewheels are the giveaways).

Modern-era Lionel has also done this same flatcar in red with Santa Fe markings & came with a transformer, product #6-29656

If you find one here and there that's banged up or incomplete, bashing is always fun: 

I fiddled with this PW version (it was complete but ratty); paint, Walthers trucks (still have the original Lionel trucks/bolsters); trucks actually dropped into place using original mounting holes and screws. Adapted some PW coupler assemblies to shorter axle spacing.

pretty slick D500! I always thought the transformer looked too small for that big of a car, and the girders not heavy enough. I need to find one without a load and just make my own load.I think I just found my next quest!

Lionel also made one with a so called "backshop load" which was a piece of large green machinery ... I have to dig the car out to find the number.

That's the one.. though I think I paid somewhere around $69 when I bought it new.

No. 9233 from the MPC-era Mid-Atlantic Limited set, painted tuscan with no lettering. I used this one and lettered it for the UP and added a large d/c Caterpillar engine load (see thread from several days ago for more information about these cars).

There was also one that was part of a Case Cutlery special edition Lionel did. It is black and lettered for the Southern Railroad (and has two large white XX markings at each end of the deck, the symbol for Case Cutlery. Came with a large wooden container with a Case knife for a load.

Looks like a generator to me.

Can you explain the GE Meatball logo?  Did you add that?  I'm pretty sure the one I have looks like your other photo without the logo.
