Hey everyone,

I am trying to connect with some train lovers like me, but alas I live in Delaware and can't seem to find anyone to just hang out at our layouts, run and talk trains, go to York together, and all the camaraderie this hobby is famous for.  All my friends are so not interested in Trains (I don't hold that against them, haha).  Is there anyone out there that would like to be train buddies and share your knowledge of trains and railroads (railroading history fascinates me).  I don't mind traveling.  Not sure if there are any train clubs out there.  Just looking to share my hobby with others.  I have a pretty nice layout and anyone is more than welcome to come run trains.

I live in Newark/Wilmington/Hockessin are of Northern Delaware.

My e-mail is in my profile here.

Hope to hear from other train lovers!

Thanks!

Well, you found them!!!

Sean,  How have you missed out not connecting with us in S.E. PA & NC County?  Even S. Jersey and MD.  All four states are within a half hour of one another.

There are dozens of local folks whose layouts are as sick as yours.  Nice job there. You just missed a road trip today to an open house of one of the member's layouts.

Once a month one of the guys host a 3 rail open house and today was one of them.

Your videos show a well done layout.  My 2K sq ft layout is still in the "before scenery" stage.  Both 2 and 3 rail are run here.  Just watched your review of the NYC Hudson and the Reading T-1.  Love those engines, have them in Sunset and MTH, both with MTH PS-2.

Nice job on the product review.

Contact me in my profile and I will try to get you connected.   Nice pikes maybe in  walking distance from you.

You are also just in time for the restart of the annual model RR open house for the month of November.  We usually have about 100 open house visits scheduled through out the month on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  About 200 modelers rotate on and off to fill the schedule, mostly HO but every one is friendly and hospitable.

Sean, here is what Tom is talking about.  Most are HO but there are several O gauge layouts to see. I know one is near Hockessin and another in Wilmimgton last time I visited. You can just show up at their homes at the allotted time and date and just walk in, they are expecting visitors.  Just from visiting and talking with the owners I was invited to join their monthly train meetings.
DE, MD, NJ and PA Model Railroad Open Houses

But don’t skip the HO layouts. There are some incredible ones (especially Bill Kachel  in Kennett Square!)

Sandjam,

Seems to me that you are in the very heart of Yankee Train Land, which is very good for you.  (In the rural South, you can go 5 years without ever seeing a real train.)

My suggestion is to find and go to O gauge train shows.  There should be many every year within 1 hour of where you live.  That is where you will get to talk to live people and find active clubs.

But, it may be hard to find someone with O Gauge who lives down the block, that you can hang with every Saturday or so.

Good luck!

“A pretty nice layout” - Sean your layout is awesome - been watching your videos forever

Loved your recent review of the Reading T-1 - my wife and son Michael were in the room watching and they were all really impressed

If there’s ever an open house event and I’m in the area I’d love to attend 👍🏼😊

Well, you can certainly hang out with a bunch of us at York!

Definitely attend any and all public events to meet people.  I know it can be tough to do and take some time but doing so definitely pays off.   Here are a few:

- Thursday morning breakfast at Round the Clock diner during York

- Thursday evening dinner at Quaker Steak and Lube during York

- Breakfast before the Allentown First Frost and Spring Thaw shows - see Alentown's posts on the forum a few weeks prior to each show

- Trainstock at the club on January 16th

I live in Harleysville, PA and am in the process of building a layout in my crappy basement..lol.  I'm not ready for visitors but when I am you are certainly welcome.  I did just subscribe to your YouTube channel - very impressive layout!

Beautiful layout, Sean.  Loved the POV video you recently posted.  I remember watching the video when you were just getting the room ready for the layout.

Terry Luft, since you're sorta near Mebane, NC there is the Mebane Train Display  We have run days on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 10-2 and more as we get closer to Christmas and work sessions on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8 (tomorrow 10/19 we are visiting a layout instead).  Check the website or contact me for more info.

You don't have to wait for an open house.  Anyone is invited anytime to come run trains!

Just let me know.
