I was given a 1st gen TIU and a revision I TIU. I got both TIUs and remote to DCS 6.0 and found out when addressing each TIU, the 1st gen TIU has a bad memory module from the red light blinking 11 times (MTH said so).

Now I want to know if you think this 1st gen TIU is worth $70 estimated repair quote from MTH to fix or if I should be looking at a newer one.

Lastly is the newest revision L that much more superior then all the rest of the predecessors?

I'm need thoughts if I should cut my lost and invest into new technology or if I should repair and keep the old stuff. This is going to be used on a fairly large layout with a couple PS3 engines but the rest running all conventional Lionel.

Thanks

Before you give up on the Rev. G (1st generation) TIU, try reloading DCS 6.0.

If the mis-numbering error is software-correctable, the TIU software reload should do it. MTH added a process to the Loader Program some time ago to look at a TIU's ID# during a software update and, if it was outside the range of 1 to 5, to reset it to 1.

It only takes a couple of minutes and is worth a try.

I tried this two times. One on different computers with fresh files from the MTH website. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Did you price a new TIU? I think you might be able to get one for about another $100 or so above your repair costs and shipping charges. Could be less depending on shipping charges for repair of your old one?

This was my thinking so I was trying to figure out what's so great about the different revisions and if L is superior enough where one would justify dropping leas than $200 on a new TIU.
