OK....I have gotten several alerts to this thread.  It is not a thread about the virus and when/if we get one, and how it is affecting everything in our lives!  This thread is an announcement about York being called off for this fall....obviously because of the virus.  No need to discuss any other off topic comments about the virus in general.  I left this topic open but was warned I should close it.....looks like that warning was spot on.  Keep your comments about YORK....please!

I understand and believe it to be a wise decision to cancel the meet, however I seem to be having serious withdrawal symptoms.  I love shopping eBay for train items but it’s not the same as getting down at eye level to make a decision about a vintage item. Then you have the layouts and most important is the social aspect, the people you see at every show, my wife calls them “train friends”.   I don’t believe this pandemic will change any time soon, but on the bright side I have been spending more time with my trains and on the forum which softens the blow a little.

I even got a better rate for the new April reservations, that was a nice surprise, $100 more to spend at the meet.

Yep.  I did pretty well for a re-booking for April, '21.

I'm not a pessimist generally, but I have some major doubt about traveling from LAX to BWI in April really will be something that I can/will do.

For some time now I thought the October York would be cancelled. Taking a positive perspective, the April York might be really interesting. IMO, the "big guys" like  Lionel and MTH took over what had been a train meet. Anyone remember back when Mike was a dealer under the grandstands? With Lionel and others pulling out of the spring York, and MTH being out of the business, York may change into something quite different. It will be interesting to see what it is. I would not expect the bandit shows to return, but one never knows.

Agree, if many of the Governors stick to their policy of only a vaccine, add in the time for immunity to develop, most meets will be cancelled.  Buy or sell what you want now. OGR advertisers, OGR Forum, local stores. Never could understand the only York to sell things, especially when everyone that returns claims they got super deals!

I wouldn’t get my hopes up until next October which I think is much more realistic.  It would be almost logistically impossible under the current situation to have a venue like York and be social distant when we were all use to being elbow to elbow with each other in the halls for the most part.   As much as I would like to be at York or any other train show it just wouldn’t be fun to have to be careful about how and what I do not to get sick or get anyone else sick for that matter.

Funny; following the arrows and dealing with baby strollers doesn’t seem like that big of a deal anymore!

I agree with you Gerry. This could really change York to the "what was" that some folks like myself haven't seen being only there a few times. We will all be starved for our great train pals we've not seen in way too long. I know I'm missing some of the sellers I usually get to talk to.

Since EDTCA was going back to the 2 day format like the old days, the meet has been postponed twice now. Guess someone is sending them a message to keep the 3 day show which was to be in October 2020 and now they are having it that way for both events in 2021.
You need 3 days to see it all, to meet, greet and see all your train friends from around the country, a key element of the York show.
No matter who attends in the April show and only comes to the October show still does not diminish seeing your friends in the hobby. I do not buy a lot of trains any longer unless it is something I’ve been looking for, I look forward for the social aspect.
Hope to see everyone next April.

Clearly this isn't your first rodeo.

Spot on, Ted!

I just changed my hotel reservations (Hampton Inn, Shrewsbury) and I too saved $100.....

If you want the York experience, crawl under your layout or go into the closet where you store the unused items, pack them in the trunk of your car and drive around the block, maybe a jaunt on the interstate, stop at a fast food restaurant (make sure you pay too much) on October 23rd and then bring them back into the house.  You'll be surprised what you forgot you have already.

I’m rolling with laughter. You hit the Spike on the head MartyE

Maybe I can finally go to York next Spring, and meet some Forumites at the gatherings.  I want to take Neal Schorr's scenic route across Pennsylvania and visit relatives, too, so, if it's again safe to travel and gather, it'll be a winner.

Let's see, . . . 2-lane Pennsylvania, Altoona, Strasburg, Steamtown (Alcos), Philly, Palmyra, Chautauqua, Pittsburgh, and then maybe zig zagging along the Santa Fe from Chicago to Kansas City . . . that ought to be 5,000+ enjoyable miles.

Great idea. Was thinking of doing the Pennsylvania part. Tough choice, as the LCCA Convention is in Scranton next year, so could do Altoona and Steamtown at that time as well.

Your right Ted it’s not so much about what stuff we want or need. Just a simple hand shake and joking around and talking trains with your buds from around the country is what I really miss right now.     Like I said before we just have to ride out the storm right now.

Chris,

Football season is around the corner. You know the train friendship can turn ugly for the Jets/ Patriots fans. Lol!
But on all seriousness, the camaderie is what keeps our hobby the best.

I know Ted. Remember the year Marty changed the sound file on my tinplate engine to the patriots file! That was one of the times Mike showed up wearing his Dolphin’s shirt at Trainstock! 😂
