Gentlemen,

Today we made a deal on a real nice size Ranch House.  My dreams of having my own Train Room are actually about to come true.  I will post some pictures as soon as I can.  We do not take possession until mid July however.   The room is 14'x18' has its own Working Fire Place and Bar, nice new hard wood floor and is in real good shape.  The adjoining room I will probably be able to use some part of also.    No picture of the Train Room at this point, outside picture of the house below, click on the link below.

Dreams do come true!

Congratulations!!!

And, good luck!!!

Congratulations & enjoy, but do not do as I have done.  Bought this house 9 years ago - yesterday -  as it had just the design I wanted that would allow a nice - two room - layout.  I became involved with other "train club" related stuff.  Now I'll play hell to get things up and running before my "expiration date" comes along.

Good deal.  My wife and I looked and looked when the railroad transferred me to Amarillo.  There are not many homes with full basements here, and the only suitable one we found was built in 1946 and had never been upgraded electrically nor in the plumbing.  I foresaw fixing and fixing, so we bought a 2-year old home with no basement, and the train room upstairs has worked satisfactorily.

Good luck on designing and building your own railroad.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the nice words, I will try to take some pictures this afternoon if I can get over to the new place.  The one picture I had was a link to the Realtors sales pictures and they removed the listing after we made the deal.

Thanks again everybody, I am very excited!   The real work moving starts after the closing in July.  Meeting with the Realtors this morning for final paper work.

Jim Pastorius,

Our new home is about 12 miles away for our place in Churchill, the new home is in Murrysville, Pa.   5128 Logan Ferry Rd, Murrysville, Pa.  It's in a real nice neighborhood, everyone has about an acre of property with their homes on this particular road.  Will need to invest in a bigger lawn tractor for sure.  The city of Pittsburgh, Pa will be about 18 miles away.  We needed to keep it semi close to Pittsburgh due to my wife's obligations to the Symphony.

Thanks much for the advise everybody !

Moving is going to be insane.

Hi Dave: Congratulations

I would like share a major error with my train room. You may want to do, "on day one" right after they hand you the keys.

Paint all the walls a sky blue, will make for better videos & still photos.  I have a shelf layout, that is 24 feet long and comes out on each end, 10 to 8 feet. Four main lines, with several sidings per line. The Man Cave Train Room Gary May 2017

Have fun.

Congratulations Dave!!!  I know how frustrating it is waiting for a train room of our own.  I finally acquired the 130 sq ft room this past winter, but haven't gotten anywhere yet of benchwork.  I am looking forward to seeing what you do with this wonderful room of yours!!

Your wife is in the Symphony!  What does she play?  I have heard them several times, because for the last two years our youngest daughter has been singing in the Mendelssohn Choir with the Symphony.

Cool.  Looks like a nice yard too.  Pay heed to other's warnings about getting sidetracked.  I've been in my new house almost 4 years now and haven't started on my layout yet, even though I finally got a dedicated room (which is also my home office).   Just can't seem to start work on it because of all the other projects that keep getting in the way.   I think I'm close though.  If this rain will let up, I think I might go buy some lumber.

Welcome to my world Jeff!  I have this 22 x 14 room that can be dedicated to the layout, and even a smaller room to move my workbench and computer into, and I have yet to get started.  I even have a bunch of Mianne benchwork in the basement to ease the task, I'm hoping this summer is the magic time.

We'll see how fast Dave gets going, now I have to make it my mission to start before him!

Good find Dave! Ranch houses are a tough find in Western NY. They often sell the day they're listed. I do have a friend who I work with retiring soon. He may move to a warmer climate. I have first dibs on his ranch before he sells on the open market. Basement size, 70' x 30' with 10' ceiling. I can't get him to stop working though.

70' x 30' with TEN Foot ceilings - Now THAT's a nice basement!

I could get by with one half (35' x 30') that size in a pinch.

Nice going Dave and best of luck with the new place!
