I need a low power transformer to power an operating mth freight platform and a lionel horse car and coral. Don’t want to spend a lot and would like variable voltage. Looking at Lionel PowerMax and Plus / CW-3O or 40. Do these have fans, are they electronically chopped AC or full wave? Any comments or suggestions.

They're chopped waveform transformers, but I don't think they have fans, I think the fan came in with the CW-80.
Does it have to be low power? You should be able to pick up a refurbished post war transformer for less than a CW-30 or CW-40. A 1033 or 1034 or Type A for example.

I think I can get these cheaper. We will see. Also prefer one in top condition.
