Purchased this caboose at Allentown for $5  because I needed a caboose for my LVRR consist.  The marking says "new 4-50" but there is no Lionel marking anywhere. It seems to have Lionel P/W metal trucks, interior lighting, steel ladders, brake wheel and a cast chimney. Can't find anything about this item. Was it possibly from a Sears or Montgomery Ward set?   I'm stumped.  Opinions from the experts are needed.

How about repainted.  Check inside.  Sometimes there is over spray from original color.

I've thought about  repainting being a possibility but what is most puzzling is that the markings appear to be heat stamped not decal applied. I'll take the cab off tonight and check for signs of repainting but if it was repainted why does the caboose have a "new 4-50" marking?? Still a mystery but we will solve it. Tonight I'll look in the Greenberg and TM books for possible info.

UPDATE: Cab removed. If this is a repaint as it most likely is, whoever did the paint coated both the inside and outside of the cab. Likely a custom unit.
