set up in creek behind my house on Monday this week; a bit more stretch of water than my canal but will be doing a track into the canal as well; also, building 2 more boat carrier cars so I can have a string of them

btw, some of my friends have r/c boats and go to shows. I'm thinking of building marine railways for some of them; would be pretty cool to launch their boats this way; you know impress friends; just short stretch of track is all you need; got this idea from kayaking and seeing marine railways along the shore; most are monorail; but older ones are traditional like this

In the early 1950s I helped build a marine railway for a boat club on Staten Island. This railway was stadard gauge. We got used ties and 85 lb rail from the Lackawanna Railroad thorugh a fellow member who worked for that company.

Our marine railway was over 200' long and went into the water to a depth of 3' at low tide. It was quite the trick to drive spikes in 3' of water and also bolt a car stop to the end of a rail. The largest boat handled was a 54' twin screw cabin cruiser built in the 1930s.
