Marx Trains Yahoo Group is Going Away

I was going to suggest groups.io;  I transferred our local NRHS chapter group there a year or so back and it was a smooth and painless process.

Given the problems with Yahoo support or lack there of over the last 5 years, this seems like logical move and hopefully we will be able to access old  information as well as preserve new content. 

I've signed up in .io.    No problem.

I haven't been able to actually use yahoo easily for a long time, so I am delighted this is happening!

Are all the members being changed over automatically?

It should import members as we understand it, but they say the transfer from Yahoo may take a while. It will be interesting to see. Almost 100 members have already signed up.

We received a notice from groups.io that the migration of data from Yahoo has started, It may take a few days.

did you pay out of your own pocket to have this transition to .io take place? have seen other moderators who were switching other groups asking for donations to defray the cost. I think the Saki/Seki group was over $100.00

For now Dave Farquhar has paid for it. When it all settles down we'll figure out how to reimburse him and set up future payments.

I'm on several groups on Yahoo. Two made the move months ago, but the procrastinators waited, and waited, and waited—and now have to abruptly make the move. I see that groups i.o. will be also be increasing the cost of storage of photos and the like, but have grandfathered in the cost for those who already moved.

I you look at the site you will see most members (1500) are now on board. Some members emails appear to be bad and were not carried over. There are now over 25000btopics so it looks like the majority of messages made it. Also a most pictures made it. This is a pretty good roll over to the new site.
