Blake, I know it has been 4 years since you finished your Wm. Crooks restoration. I agree with the many previous replies that you did a great job. I have a renewed interest in some of the steps you took doing your restoration. I have acquired another Marx Wm. Crooks train (I run one on my layout). I'm thinking seriously about painting and pinstriping the locomotive and tender the same as you did in your restoration project. I have found the green paint used on the boiler and other parts. However, I can't find the maroon and red paint that was used. Do you recall what paint you used for the maroon and red? Also, was there a particular type of car pinstriping you used for the locomotive and tender? Any other advice you can share will be appreciated.

I am just seeing this comment now, all the paints I used for my restoration were testors colors, I don't recall off hand the exact colors used, but they were the basic brown and red (I didn't use maroon in my project) the pinstriping used was Prostripe brand, available at auto stores. I used their gold color.
