Got there TOO LATE to take a picture of the American Flyer Standard Gauge MAYFLOWER SPECIAL that was perhaps REPLATED.  There was a split opinion from knowledgeable bidders as to original plating.  A phone bidder BID $58 Thousand plus 10%, and MAURER's IMMEDIATELY locked the train in acabinet before I arrived.  This is all I got in TWO days...$425 plus 10%...ALL ORIGINAL 392E!!!

I was there on Friday and witnessed the entertainment provided by the bidding on the A.F. Mayflower set and the same phone bidder bought many other things too. That was a good buy on the Lionel 392E. After losing out on the apple green Lionel 408E set, I came away with a very nice A.F. Potomac O gauge set which makes an interesting contrast to my standard gauge Pocahontas set looking very much like it's smaller brother.

One of the real treasures at that Mauer auction were the matched early #10 series freight cars with yellow primer and the rare 1911 only trucks. Yes, I used the word "rare". Never seen a matched set of 1911 freights before... Heard they brought over $1K each. Hope they went to the same bidder so they stay together.

Can be seen in the eighth pic above.
