I just received some of the cylinders for the McCoy 4-4-0 steam loco. I am contemplating producing some of the cylinder saddles. Question is how much in demand are they. Thank you for your I'm-put. Harry

I would say there are some needed. I looked at mine and while it is not gone it is showing definite cracks and fatigue...i.e. it wants to be a Dorfan....not good. Hopefully Steve Eastman will chime in also since I think he might be interested. It would be nice to get more old McCoy engines running.

A very high percentage of them are on the verge of disintegrating, I know I could use 3 of them.

Harry,
I too could use 3 of them.

I need one
Harry, please clarify. Do you mean the cylinder looking things that the piston rods go into? Or the casting that those cylinders hang off of, what I call a McCoy steam saddle that looks like this?
As you can see this McCoy casting has seen better days, and I was going to soon send out to a machine shop and get 2 new ones carved out of aluminium.

It is the steam saddle. We will be working on a mold as soon as the casting material arrives. Harry
The difference between machining soft steel and aluminum or brass aren't significant in a CNC shop. When two different metals are used together you guarantee corrosion.
Harry,
Any update on the availability of this McCoy steam saddle?
I have the McCoy steam saddles made. Each saddle comes w/ 2 steel flat plates, drilled, and mounts between the cylinder and chest. The saddles are an epoxy casting, unpainted. $28.00 set. I will have Stephanie list them on Monday. Harry
Wow!!! Thanks
