I picked up a McCoy Cascade RR Chief Seattle 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive.  Its missing the front wheels.  I am not sure if they are called pilot wheels or pony wheels, but I've circled the missing wheels in yellow in this photo from the TCA Western website.

Can somebody who has the locomotive or one of the other McCoy 4-4-0 locomotives measure the diameter of these wheels so I know what I need for replacements?

I actually found these 4 McCoy wheels in my parts box that I picked up as part of another auction a while ago.  I'm wondering if they might be the right wheels.  They have a diameter of about 1 3/32 - 1 1/8 inch.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks.

2 of the 4 drive wheels were deteriorated.  I picked up some replacements.   The hole for the axle was too small so I just drilled it out a little larger and was able to press on the wheels to the axle, but the screw hole for the side rod shoulder screw is actually  so the shoulder screw does not grip.  I am trying to think of options to fix this problem and would appreciate if anyone has experience with this if they can chime in.

 - find shoulder screws that have a larger diameter screw

- wrap the screw thread with plumber's tape

- fill the hole with solder and then screw the shoulder screw back in

- fill the hole with jb weld an retap the hole

Any suggestions?

The solder or JB and new threads seems best. Solder being stronger, especially on a tiny application.

A larger screw can be used later if that ever fails.

Also, fyi, helicoil thread repair coils come in #2 and larger so that may be another option (?) And it would be "doing it right" vs an oversized screw.(though I usually just drill &tap for oversize)

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I tried plumber's tape and that did not work.

Searched for larger shoulder screws and came up short.

Since I do not have a helicoil repair kit already, it looks like it will be more cost effective to get another set of wheels from Harry with the correct hole size.

So now I am working on my next problem.  I thought I had all the parts needed to rebuild this loco, but recently came to find out that I am missing this part outlined in yellow.

McCoy missing piece

I think it might be called the steam chest.

So,

1 - are replacement parts available somewhere for this?

2 - if not, does anyone have a spare one available for sale?

3 - if not does anyone have one I might be able to borrow to get the dimensions so I can 3D print it?
