My article about the construction of my 10’-by-5’ NYT&BRR was published today in print and on line in O Gauge Railroading magazine Run 316. My thanks to Allan Miller for including it.

An earlier article about my 12'-by-8' railroad appeared in OGR Run 214.

I’m pleased to hear your comments or answer any questions.

Congratulations Melgar, your layout proves that size has no restrictions on the fun there is to be had Operating our trains. Small layouts or medium size layouts or ever large layouts are all fun if the track is laid properly. Your layout is a fine example of superb workmanship, well deserving to be featured in this great OGR Magazine. Thank you for this thread, amazing scenic detailing. Happy Railroading Everyone

Mel, I am really looking forward for my copy to get here. Part of the reason why is because what you have modeled, could be parts of my town and the nearby city(bigger town) where the local rails run.

Heck, I could even say a few towns around NJ where the rails run, it just has that small town feel I guess from what I've seen. Always looking for inspiration.

Congrats on your article Mel! A 10' X 5' layout can be just as much enjoyment as a 185' X 40' layout with a lot less walking around.

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement!  I've had several enjoyable afternoons visiting with a friend who has a small layout!

I really look forward to reading the article as there is much to learn from well designed small layouts.  Congrats Melgar!

Mel,

I saw this post a few weeks ago and did not want to respond until I read the article.  Now that I have, I really enjoyed it!  Very well written.  I like the detail and the scale sizing you expressed in terms of the elevations from the water up.  Got me thinking about my new layout in process.  I'm also a foam board enthusiast.  I have a set of Hot Wire Foam factory tools as well as an old Tippie tool that I've had a lot of fun with over the years.  Thanks for sharing your project.

Mike

Model Railroading is Fun to qoute the onetime slogan that Model Railroader used on the cover of it's popular hobby magazine.  Mel, your NYT&B certainly lives up to the slogan 100 in Century 21!

You mention above that an earlier artical about your railroad was published in OGT 304, but wait, the NYT&B was also featured in OGT 214 as well!  Combined with the two additional "installments" on the NYT&B, this is in effect, a Triple Treet to say the least!

But hey, there's more, more or less?  Run 204 features yet another layout that's roots are in planted deep in old New England as well.  Modeler Stu Gralnik's layout, based on the New England town of Thompsonville, follows your artical.  That makes a total of 12 pages of New England charm, and gads, there's even another treet as well!...

...Rich Melvin, former OGR CEO, and author of his new book, "765! A 21st Century Survivor" tells the story where he renews old friendships with NKP #765 and retired NKP locomotive engineer John Tomhafe in an artical title simply "Old Friends".

With most of us staying indoors and close to the fireplace, O Gauge Railroading has become a close companion when not running, building, or cleaning one's layout.  Not to forget the Armchair Model Railroaders either.  We may not have a layout at the moment, but that doesn't keep us from dreaming and planning one, or reaping the Golden Harvest with our Digital Subscription where we have access to EACH & EVERY issue of OGR from Run Number One, for gosh sakes.  WOW!

Thanks Mel, for sharing your layouts with OGR members, and thanks too to O Gauge Railroading for publishing them, so we can share your enthusiasm with you as well!

... the NYT&B was also featured in OGR 214

Joe,

I made a mistake (now corrected) in my first post in this thread. Thank you for pointing it out. The article "The New York, Trumbull and Boston Railroad" (12'-by-8' layout) was published in OGR Run 214 (April/May 2006).

OGR has published my articles in:

Run 214 - The New York, Trumbull and Boston Railroad (12'-by-8' layout)

Run 300 - Model-Building from the Ground Up

Run 304 - The NYT&B Railroad (10'-by-5' layout)

Run 316 - A New England Look for the NYT&BRR
