I have the modern Lionel log loader.  Had it hooked up to 17 volts, instructions say 12-15.  Felt it ran a little better at the higher voltage.  I knew that it would probably shorten the life of the bulbs.  It has the small bulls with the plastic base, like the mini Christmas lights.  Today I noticed one was not lit, thought it had burnt out.  Went to pull it out to replace it and there was no bulb.  I looked around and found it had fallen out and looking closer, i see that the plastic base had actually had melted and dripped down the bulb, see the picture.  Switched it back to 15 volts and will watch the lights.  Never thought the plastic base would actually melt.  Anyone else have a base melt?
