Roo, Not familiar with your work.  May I ask about your backgrounds in the photos?  The large blue panels with clouds.  They appear to be a facade in front of the real walls.  Can you tell me more about them?  What are they made of and how are they attached?

I'm starting a layout in an unfinished basement.  I don't want to create real walls and painting the concrete wont get me the effect I'm looking for.  A false wall/facade might be the answer. Yours look great!  Thank you in advance!

First an answer for John and thanks to everyone else. The backdrop is Flexi Ply easy to bend because I wanted to have curved corners the "sky" paint is just cheap water based house paint coloured to what i thought looked right the 'clouds" are from a spray can lightly feathered in a circular motion careful not to heavy on the spray. The ply is on a framework of 2X1 pine attached to the wall could have made it free standing attached to the baseboard but took the easy way out as i have changed the baseboards an number of times over the last 30 odd years.

Now todays photos during an operating session which we have every Friday just three of us.

The official photos show a derailment caused by an ingot car pushed over the dirt bumper causing the Gondola to hit it and throwing the gon into the locomotive no one was hurt except their pride and an enquiry is underway and I can tell you quietly those "dirt bumpers" are going to be replaced with Steel one's very soon! An unfortunate chain of events involving two maybe three trains the ingot car was not moving at the time but sitting on the dirt to close to the curved track "Tsk Tsk"!

The ist photo shows a coke train heading for the high line while the workshop yard is recieving a pipe load.

2nd Photo shows the BOF receiving a load of scrap while an empty Hot Metal train is waiting to depart.

3rd photo shows action at the Rolling Mill while next door a passenger train has just arrived using the RS3 for power.

4th photo shows an empty slag pellet train arriving at Valley Forge.

That's it for today a very enjoyable day of train running with my mates. American trains are never boring especially O scale one's!  Roo.

Hi Nev, good to see you are still active.

Sorry I have missed a few Friday sessions again mate :>

Fires have moved South to Victoria but plenty of dirty rain to contend with here. A bit of track maintenance to do after the storms but not going to complain about rain. Might finally get off level 5 water restrictions.

I found myself doing a lot more track cleaning this season with the constant smoke and dust clouds so I have installed 'stay alives' in my locos to keep them running on dirty track.

cheers

Bob

Almost two weeks?

I rolled back and his last post showing several photos of the Bay Ridge Harbour was October 11, 2018. Then, two responses to it the following day.

The next message for Roo after that is dated Dec. 15, 2019. It is followed by three more from February 9, 10 and today, (Feb 23). Have messages between October 2018 and Dec 2019 been deleted?  I' m certain there were some in that period.

Roo is a good friend and 'mate' as the Aussies say. We've corresponded since the late 1990's. It was my pleasure to spend some time visiting with him when I was in Australia in 2007. We exchanged Christmas cards in December.

Being that it's been a hot, dry summer in Western Australia, he likely does little if anything with the layout and new steel mill operation.  In some past years, he and his wife traveled to England to visit their son and his family, within Aussie's summer months. I sent him a note a few days ago.

Hi S . Islander

I see that Roo has been very active over on the Facebook "2-Rail O Scale & Proto:48 Model Railroading" group so he seems to be doing just fine, not to worry.  His last Facebook post was ~14 hours ago.  He may be smitten with the very Facebook he was so reluctant to join .  I'm sure he will be checking in here before too long after seeing your post though .
