Hey Mark, please tell your architectural staff who are working hard designing the BREWERY not to put a tunnel through it. Actually I not very fond of trains running through buildings - at least not on my railroad.
I use the tunnel insert as I don't have a good place to run a train through it.
First, thank you for asking for our input on the “building tunnels”. Nice to have a VOTE! Second, the tunnels are a great addition (option) to your building uses. Please keep’em!
Perrsonally, I have no interest in running trains through buildings, unless it's a warehouse, grain elevator, coal facility, or depot. Otherwise, it seems a bit goofy. But that's just me.
Honestly, the only building I want a train running through is a track-related industry like the Morton Salt building or the upcoming brewery. (I thought if I slipped the brewery idea in quickly, it would stick.)
Otherwise, I like the inserts ... whichwouldntbeneededforabrewerysowhynotmakeone. (I thought a fast-talking approach in writing might work too.)
If we can get a neat building without the tunnel than do it...the tunnel is not necessary for me..but the rooftop bar/restaurant sure is
Keep campaigning for that Brewery, Nick!
As long as it has a spot for my Mr. Boh sign,it can take the place of my Dept Budwieser brewery
I don't think I'm correctly picturing how these buildings were made. I assumed the "entrance" to the parking garage (on both sides) was simply a rectangular panel that would pop out allowing track to run through the building. Is it in fact an inlaid tunnel?
Gosh, yes - keep it. If you don't want the "tunnel", it's still an already-built area that can be closed/re-imagined.
BTW - someone referred to running tracks through a building as "goofy" well, no it isn't, especially in the time before the US was de-industrialized, and had so many crowded urban/industrial areas - everywhere. Now, I'll admit, it is less common, but not un-common.
Thanks for the pics and explanation. It does seem a bit excessive, couldn't a similar effect have been accomplished by having the insert ends be just walls that would snap into place?
Separate snap-in panels could also be offered in different "storefronts"...such as a diner, laundry, feed store, tavern, parking garage, barber shop, truck dock, service elevator, etc. and made interchangeable for all of the similar building.
'Just a thought.
On the York Hotel, I used the tunnel for a trolley pass-through. Made sense - a lot of hotels pay for the service to be run through their properties.
So, YES, I vote YES. Keep making them!
On a separate note: I WANT YOUR JOB! (smiles) How much fun it must be!
On yet another separate note: Who do I talk to about a Red Owl supermarket which arrived here in Laramie yesterday with one of the walls caved in? It seemed to ship that way as the outer packaging was not damaged in anyway.
Thanks for allowing us to vote!

Hey Doc.LJ, Maybe Mark has a bear training apprenticeship program you could sign on to?
Some time at the throttle of Menard's Train P.R. engine, or a choice in a pet project might make for a fun contest prize Mark
