Here is a few shots I took at Steaming Into History last week in New Freedom, PA.

Me and my son arrived around 10am, and was greeted with some classic PRR geep.

Around 10:30 they brought out the star of the show, NCRR "York" #17

We rode the 10:30 train and chased the noon and 2:30 trains.  After our ride my son was invited into the cab of #17.

Overall we had an amazing day.  Great train ride.  Even better people who ran it.  We will be back again!

I don't have much this week.  I did head back down to the UP transcon in eastern Nebraska for another scouting trip.  This time I took my kayak so I could check out the bridge at Columbus, NE.  I found a road that went to the bridge but there was some sort of "No Trespassing" sign.  I wasn't sure exactly where it was referencing.  There was no Fishy Game office in town, so I went to the police dept.  They didn't know.  They also didn't know of any canoe access to the river.  I went to the sheriffs' office and talked to a deputy.  He said the homeowner's association marked it no trespassing but if I drove in through the open gate and parked there I'd be OK.  I still wasn't sure as I thought it was odd no one else was there on a Saturday afternoon.  I drove back, got out, and checked out the river.  In the past I've walked across it but it looked pretty deep now.  There was a strong current where the channel funneled under the bridge too.  I could do it, but it would be a little dicey with expensive camera gear along.  I studied it awhile and realized that w/b trains take the north track, meaning I'd either have to shoot from the south and across the e/b track, or from the north but into the sun.  I just didn't see that shot as being worth all the trouble of hauling a boat down there and launching it, messing with a high running river, and then there were hostile natives lurking about.  In fact I didn't find any spot really suitable for much of a shot on a w/b.  I slunk back home, my kayak still dry on top of my Subeeboo.  I didn't have much to show for the tank of gas I went through.  Before heading back I stopped at the yard in Fremont and took a couple of shots with my Nikon F3T, a 1983 vintage camera.  So, I'm left wondering if I'll head down there at all this weekend.  I do want more shots of the crowds with the engine, but I'm sure I can get those when it eventually cruises down to Kansas City, and more interesting terrain.

A few snapshots from my trip to Washington, D.C. for a summer class two weeks ago. Most of these photos were taken from my seat on inbound or outbound Metro trains.

A train of Metro cars ( I believe these were 5000-series) pulls into Dupont Circle.

A rare MARC HHP-8 pulls a train of first-generation Bombardier coaches out of Washington, D.C. Union Station.

MARC Siemens SC-44 Charger 80 brings up the rear of a train waiting for clearance into Washington.

This last photo is from the MLK Memorial; granted, there are no trains in the photo, but CSX's mainline was just across the river.

I do so love trains but thank you especially for this pic.
