Good Midweek to one and all.  I have some fresh material to add this week, and hope that you have some photos to share with us as well.

This past Monday, July 27, I was taking a pic of this unusual sight at the Delaware Lackawanna RR in Scranton, PA.  Two of their famous fleet of Alco locomotives matched with their 1948-built Lackawanna Railroad caboose.  The caboose was built in Scranton, about a mile or so from this location in the downtown.

The loco on the left was originally an Erie Lackawanna unit, while the right unit is former Lehigh Valley.  When the railroad rebuilt the locomotive and painted it, they re-created the LV flag on the short hood with a "GV" in the black diamond in place of the original "LV."

While taking the first photo, I heard the horns for this incoming freight train, returning from a grain mill in the Pocono Mountains.  The mountain shown in the photo is the Moosic Mountain.

No. 414 is painted in her original livery of the Lehigh Valley's yellow-jacket scheme.  The caboose on the right is also former LV, too. It is part of the Steamtown collection.

Delaware Lackawanna is investing in the Scranton area. This building is nearing completion in the Pine Brook section of the city.  The two-stall structure will be the new locomotive shop for repair and restoration of the Alco-centric fleet.

This is the view from a causeway built over what was once the Delaware & Hudson RR Green Ridge yard.  The building is roughly where the D&H once had it's roundhouse.

The view from the causeway looking south toward the downtown. The track on the right is now disconnected, but leads about 2 blocks to a stub end.  It served a plastics plant in the 1990s.

That is my offering for this week.  Thank you to all for your help in keeping this thread interesting.  Please add your photos here.

It was fixin' to get weatherish the other day, so I went out between Umbarger and Canyon, Texas, for some sky and train photos.  I had barely parked the car when trains from each direction showed up.  I grabbed a few shots and then got out before the road turned to mud.  The rain hit right after I left.

I had a fantastic weekend for train photos.  It was like catching the big fish twice!

Saturday I was on my way to work when I saw the world's largest maraca go by.  I knew work could wait so the chase was on.  Eureka Mo provided a good photo location with the morning sun behind me.

1. The front of the train with some track work equipment.  A man was walking about it with that bored stride that says "I don't want to be here this morning." So, I assuming they were getting ready for a day's work.

2 and 3. The giant maraca.  Or is it a pepper grinder?  The six truck flatcar has DODX markings.  A friend thinks it is a nuclear material container.  It must be empty to be car #8 of a 106 car train.

4.  SP and MP gondolas, a bit worse for wear.

5. Chicago North Western covered hopper.  How old is that?

6. Pool covered hopper, SM and Big Blue boxcars.  This was a colorful train.

7. Two SP boxcars, different colors.  My Lionel layout is looking prototypical now!

8. UP MOW well car.  It is freshly painted and bright.

On Monday I caught the "big fish."  We were rolling along hwy 24 in NW Ohio when my brother spotted the Napoleon Defiance and Western's Santa Fe GP7M.

1. An over the shoulder shot out the window.  Look who's hiding in the bushes.

2. That sure is some crazy track.  A mile or so earlier we looked down from the highway overpass over these tracks and saw a blue ballast tamper and pickup truck on the tracks, so they are improving things...  The intersection is county road 232.

3 and 4.  The star of the show.  The light yellow patches are covering BNSF logos.  It was exciting and strange to see blue and yellow Santa Fe in Ohio and without any other railroad's name on it.

5. The sister boxcar to the one I saw on Saturday.  FSRR runs between Mexico City and Veracruz Mexico.  (I only know of Veracruz because of the boardgame Empire Builder.)

6. Just a three car train.  I looked up the hazard number, diesel.
