Has anyone tried to take the pilot off of Lionel’s S scale Mikado?  At first glance, it looks pretty easy, however when I removed the one obvious screw holding it… nothing happened – the pilot did not come off.  Hmmmm?

So before I destroy it trying harder to remove it, I though I’d ask.  The Lionel parts list says it is not available, but if it were the pilot would cost like $75.00.  I certainly don’t want to mangle it for this project.

The project is adapting a Kadee whisker coupler to the pilot.  Actually though the pilot and mounting on the screw that secures the pilot.

Thank if you can help.

Hi Jerry,

I removed the 10 lbs of stuff and you are quite right it was very crowded in there.  But It runs great on DC now -- well maybe not as great as the Putt Mogul you did for me, but it does okay.

And thanks Carl.  I did give a good pull to the hand rail and the pilot is separate now.  the Kadee will require more mill than I want to do at this time, but I might make my own Whisker and drill the shank like Jerry did for the Mogul.  Just a guitar string and some JB Weld will do.
