As always, it makes me appreciate the so-called "robber barons" who poured their lives and their fortunes into railroads.
 
The tale of the MILW is as much as any other modern industry that was run into the ground in the interest of short-sighted "entrepreneurs" or lawyers with no personal capital at stake grabbing the fast cash and running with their bonuses. 
 
And it confirms that no politician or railroader alive today would have the foresight to electrify as the Milwaukee did with the pacific extension or the PRR and Roosevelt did with New Deal money.
