So, I was in Travis Perkins today and saw a 78” x 36” hollow core door in the offcuts rack for £10. I thought “how wrong can I be, for a tenner?” and bought it. Just as well I was driving the estate car...

Back in the garage, and I find that 78” x 36” allows THIS...

I want to do some more tinkering with the track layout (especially, sort out that LH switch, and try fitting 54” lead-ins using a small number of rails that came with one of the job lots) but tomorrow I’ll probably get some self-tappers and screw the track down. I’ve sorted through the track enough now, to get nice smooth slow running all round, and the little Scout is running like a champ (in forwards, at least..)

I’ve now cut in a 1/4 straight near the back switch, to ease the track shape - accumulated misalignments, I suppose. There’s probably room to cut in a 1/3 straight, or something similar each side of the near curve, if I feel ambitious. 

Next jobs are to sort out the near switch, and fit another switch in the reverse loop to give a siding. I have a UCS to go there. 

Then I’ll paint the door green, and screw down the track using cork roadbed. 

I do find that the VERY light pony truck on the little Scout 2-4-2 is a good way to find track irregularities!
