Modifying the Williams by Bachmann #41807 PRR Tuscan 5-stripe Scale GG-1

The Williams scale GG-1 O scale engines are nicely detailed conventional powered models that have good quality paint and lettering.  The model has an overall wheelbase of 16-7/8 inches  or 67 scale feet. This is close to the prototype wheelbase of 69 feet. The model has two flywheel equipped motors and True Blast horn and bell.

This  PRR Tuscan model appears to be painted in more of a dark brown color when compared to the prototype photos. Road number on the model is 4913.

Prototype Data: (from Wikipedia)

The PRR GG1 was a class of electric locomotives built for the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) for use in the northeastern United States. Between 1934 and 1943, General Electric and the PRR's Altoona Works built 139 GG1s.

The GG1 was 79 feet 6 inches (24.23 m) long and weighed 475,000 pounds. The frame of the locomotive was in two halves joined with a ball and socket joint, allowing the locomotive to negotiate sharper curves. The body rested on the frame and was clad in welded steel plates.

Twelve 385-horsepower (287 kW) GEA-627-A1 traction motors drove the GG1's 57-inch (1,448 mm) diameter driving wheels on six axles using a quill drive. Four unpowered leading/trailing wheels were mounted on each end of the locomotive.

Modifications to be made to this model include directional LED front and rear headlights. Simulated cab interiors with individual lighting will be added. The front and rear marker lights and number boards will also be lighted. The motors will be series wired to reduce the top end engine speed.

More progress. The motors have been wired in series.  The reverse board and the sound board have been relocated as shown. The sound board is now mounted next to the speaker. Note the differences.

Wiring for the directional LED headlights has not been completed. Also the simulated cab interior and lighting plus number board lighting has not been completed. Plastic tie wraps have been used to better organize the wiring.

While your at it have you considered adding some form of command control my self would be TMCC but I know other would be Proto 2 or 3

I have this engine and my plans in the future is to add TMCC  and then will decide on LED lights and all but time will tell thats on the back burner for now

My preference is to only update to command control my existing collection of MTH Premier Proto 1 engines at this time. The modifications to my collection of Williams engines are mainly rewiring of the motors and the lighting system due to the small added expense. See the photos of my rewiring of the GG-1.
