Having assembly issues. I think I know how to crimp and assemble. I have the Molex crimping tool. I crimp the wiring on OK but I always have trouble inserting the wired pins in the connector. Push in and click, right ? I always have to use a jewelers screw driver to push the pins home. I have a male connector where I can't get the pins to lock. Any trick to this ?

Orientation is critical. They only work one way. Look at a factory one to determine whats right. Lionel uses two and four pin micro fits in just about every engine. Also make sure the crimp at the end around the insulation is tight. If thats not fully crimped the pin won't go in.

Thanks Norton: I'm not reworking a Lionel product. I'm adding a connector to an accessory for quick disconnect. There are 4 possible positions for a pin. There is only on position where the pin engages (drops into the hole) more. But the pin will not insert far enough to lock ? What the issue with the insulation crimp. The insulation crimp appear to hang in space causing no interference ?
Actually, it turns out, it's critical to have the male pins in the male shell and the female sockets in the female shell. No mention on this essential step in the directions ? For reference, the male pins go in the open space shell and the female sockets go in the tubular shell. The locking mechanisms in the male pins and the female sockets are different. The design is Murphy Proofed but where there is a will there is a way.
