I am in the process of building a large postwar/MPC layout using tubular O track. Every time I see a picture where someone has used the old Moondog Rubber Ties, it just looks right. By "right", I mean not to scale, and not prototype, but the Moondog ties somehow look correct next to the black ties on 3-rail Lionel tubular O track. The widely available 3R plastic ties, by contrast, look slightly off, i.e., just a touch too small.
Is anyone using both kinds? Which do you prefer and why?
Also, if someone has the exact dimensions of an old Moondog rubber tie, please post them. These are, of course, no longer available and I have been researching alternatives made of both rubber and wood. There's a rubber manufacturer who will sell sheet rubber that's cut to your specification.
