It's fine, probably 22-28 ga. If it were me I'd look around the house for a junk computer cable. An old ethernet cable (Cat5) is probably fine enough.
Another option would be hook-up wire that may be included with a MTH or Lionel accessory.
Great minds! I actually have some cat5 stranded in my junk wire box but even that was too thick with the insulation on the wire to go in the pipe.
Agree w/Dan re gauge.
Also, a drop of liquid soap on the wire insulation will help ease it through the plastic.
Strip out wire from an old keyboard or mouse... The cheaper they are the thinner the wire will be.
Can you estimate the diameter of the green insulation? If no calipers maybe line up the 4 wires in parallel and divide ruler measurement by 4.
For those interested (or those just really bored) here is what I did.
I got some cheap 30ga stranded wire from Amazon. This was the right size to fit in the pipe. I used a piece of piano wire to get thru the neck of the lamp. The wire is silicone covered and too bendy plus the pipe is spliced between the curve and straight so there is a bump. I then soldered the 2 30 ga wires to the piano wire and pulled them thru the pipe. I then soldered up the Socket plugs and put back together.
