This engine has been in storage for a long time and I wanted to make sure that it was well lubricated including the gear box. Taking it apart was a pain but I had a surprise in that it had the AA chargeable batteries. It was a pain to take apart but before put it back together I do have a question. In the center of the boiler is a junction block with a number of miniature connectors. There is a black connector with 2 wires leading to it (red and black). That doesn't seem any place to hook anything to it. I admit that I do have a connector coming from the front front drive wheels which is single black wire (no red)  but I believe it connects to the connector on top of the gear box because there is a connector with two red wires going to one connection. Any information would be helpful and a wiring diagram if possible. Like I said it was a pain to take apart.

Are the Black Wires in MTH products ground? The wire I do not know where to connects to the chassis as a ground. Based on the fact that red wires imply power I do not believe that the ground wire should go to the two red ones that are on top of the motor. It appears this is the only choice that I could find. There was no spring. IMG_20200203_091606303

Is the 2 pin plug for it on the chassis?  If your harness connection from tender is to shell of engine and not on frame of engine, I do believe that is the AC power jumper from the frame to the shell.  All those pickups, and I believe there was a connector wire that had to come up and over interference in shell to plug into that.  Verify where ends of that plug goes.  G

I traced the connector with the single black wire and it went to the pickup rollers on the front wheel set of the engine. Trying to trace the black wire from the  connector that has a black and red wire was impossible. The wire appeared to run from the connector to the junction block that made connection to the tender as well as the motor. It was looking at a jumble of wiring. Based on this tracing black is not the ground wire but the wire that provides power to the engine and the electronics.  I guess that I should connect the single black wire to the connector that has a red and black wire and make sure that the two connectors have black to black.
