Do you have the model number?

Are you able to see if the voltage is dropping a lot at the transformer when you turn the smoke on? It sounds like something is wrong with one of your smoke units and it's sucking up a lot of juice.

Not sure on the sound. Could be that the speak is rotting. Something was wrong with the metal on some of the locomotives and it would flake away. This will cause damage eventually. How confident do you feel about taking things apart?

Jake ......can you give us a video of the Triplex exhibiting each of these symptoms? 

What are you using for a power supply ?  Smoke units will draw sometimes 2 amps. In your case maybe 4. Couple all that to the engine and your talking maybe 5 to 6 amps. You may be pushing the limits of your power supply.

Dave C.  I am using Lionel 180 power bricks.   I run 3 diesels on that same track sometimes with 3 smoke units going at same time and no problems   But with this engine on that track by itself and no other engine running it happens.
