It may just be me but...

i just purchased MTH Powhatan Arrow set 206514 to match up with the Premier 611. It looks like these cars are not as tall as they should be. The top of the roof barely reaches the top of the back of the tender. Prototype photos show the roof/body joint being about at that level. They just seem to look small to me.

What say the brethren?

No picture!

Well my J is deeply packed away.  But the local toy train shop has an MTH Premier N&W J on display.  It is on a shelf sitting on its flanged wheels.  The top on the rear of the tender measures 3-inches.  I pulled out my MTH N&W Powhatan Arrow "Duke University" dining car.  Also sitting on its wheel flanges it measures 3 1/2-inches high.  That would put the crest of the roof about 1/2-inch or TWO-Scale feet above the rear of the tender.  And from the pictures I have of 611 in excursion service pulling this type of streamliners, my guess the crest is in fact about Two- feet higher than rear of tender.  So everything appears to be copacetic.

Here is a photo of my coupled model and an image of the prototype. roof lines look similar but the yellow paint stripe is closer to the top of the tender. Maybe that is what is throwing me off...

Overall height looks good.

But is that the 611 tender with your passenger car?  I do not recall the yellow grad rail or the ladder looking like that.

I pulled one of my real RR books out , this on C&O passenger cars with dimensioned drawings.  These car are dimension as 13' 6 3/32" from railhead to crest of streamline cars.  This would be about 3 and 3/8-inches high from railhead.  Pulled the MTH Powhatan "Duke University" car out, set it on a section of straight track.  It measure 3 3/8 inches high.  So appears to be very very close.
