I have that ATSF SW9 switcher #2421 from SHS.

ATSF SW9 1215 did exist and you can find pics of it on the net.

The covergirl on the MTH catalog is an NW2, as was the prototype 1215.  The primary spotting difference between an NW2 and SW9 for modelling purposes is the step in the hood before the cab verses a sloped hood.

Another difference is the size of the radiator.

NW2:

EMD NW2 FWD 605

SW9:

EMD SW9 EMD 1200

Of course, there's a host of other less noticeable details that the railroads may have changed during their service lives.

Literally at the end of my rope waiting for them... They told us two years ago they would have the switchers in the next catalog. Hopefully they have some new roads, more Fs, and cabooses. I would actually be reasonably satisfied with that. I'm so torn between S which fits my space much better, but is on life support at best or O which has far more available but takes up so much space and $. I suppose I might as well wait and see what's in the catalog. 

If MTH sells an F3, F7 or SW15 in Reading, I'm there.  A Consolidation steam in Reading and I'm there.

Doubt any of the above, although I did talk to MTH at both the Oaks Great American Train Show and York.  They assured me new product was coming.

Other club members who have either S Helper or MTH love it especially since you lock the method of control with a switch (DCC or DCS).

Not to hijack the thread, but I don’t really see a lot of savings in S vs O.  At least in the MTH/Lionel category.

Comparing Hi-Rail S to 2R is a huge savings. Example, a loop to loop pike in S could use hidden 20-27" r return loops. In 2R O those would be 36-48"r loops. Big space savings. In my basement S Hi-rail gives me much more flexibility to design what I want from an operational perspective. What it doesn't have is available product that I want. I only have a little more than 34x9 to work with. Trying to design an operations based layout in larger scales for this space is proving very difficult. Especially when passenger operations are desired. 

I will be interested to see what they put in the catalog. I will eat my hat if there is actually new tooling in there as was mentioned above. We shall see. Even after we see a catalog we'll still have to hold our breath waiting to see if they actually deliver what they advertise. How many years late were the F units? Hopefully they have the factory situation straightened out this time.

Keep breathing.  Everybody's doing it.   It comes highly recommended.

New product likely means former SHS products not previously re-released by MTH (the NW2 and others) not new tooling.

Pretty sure if MTH had a totally new-tooled-from-scratch S Scale product, it would be on the cover.

Please be patient. The date of the catalogue is 2019-2020. It's due in August, 2020. Orders from the catalogue will ship to dealers after Christmas, 2021, maybe. The products will be the same as what S Helper Service offered, but with new paint schemes. In order to avoid confusion (and the cost incurred by SHS by including both scale and high-rail wheels), scale and high-rail products will have a single part number and come without wheels. Wheels of your choice can be ordered separately. They will be available for order from the 2025-2026 catalogue due in 2029 and will ship to dealers by 2030, maybe.
