A couple of years ago, I sent my MTH PS1 Pioneer Zephyr set for repairs. I eventually got it back 2 months later and it worked great again. The only other problem I have right now is in the tail car. Everything else runs, but the tail car doesn't want to move. The lights work, but no movement. What should I do to fix this problem?

Disconnect the 4-wire plug going to the Trailing car, use a DC power pack and connect the outputs to the motor in that car.   Advance power.   If it runs, the problem is getting power from the Protosound board, past the lead engine motor, to the Trailing car motor.  Check continuity of the power wires ( assume they are white and yellow) between the output on the lead engine to the plug inside the trailing unit.

If the motor does not run with a DC power pack attached, it is defective.

Today, I was just testing the loco with just the tail car (no other cars), and then added another car and still worked.  Just before I'd swap the second car out, I found out that the problem wasn't the tail car at all. It was in the combine car. The tether that connects in the trucks was unplugged. So I took the car apart, reconnected the tether, and the whole thing worked.
