I am asking because I purchased the dcs commander, 5-1028, and it needs a ps2 3 volt system or ps3.

All PS-2 engines made after 2003 are 3V systems up to the release of PS-3. 5V PS-2 were made basically from 2000 to 2003. The engine you listed was made in 2010 therefore 3V.

I must be 3 volt because it uses a 2.4 volt battery per instruction, that you linked to.

5 volt system used a 9 volt type battery (8-9 volt range).

Regardless of what the documentation says, the DCS Commander works with all PS2 and PS3 engines.
