Just bought a new MTH Railking grainery with interior lights. First MTH building I've ever bought. It has interior lighting. However there are no instructions with it about how to hook up, what the voltage of the bulbs is, AC or DC. Went to the MTH website but could not find any help about wiring other than the bulbs might be 14-20 volt AC. I though they might have some kind of wiring system for easily linking multiple buildings, but could not find anything like that.

Looking for advice on how to hook these up, especially if I buy several others buildings by MTH. What voltage do you recommend for longer bulb life? Run on AC or DC? Do you hook up to "accessories" connection on your transformer or run off of an auxiliary power supply?

Thanks!

18 volt bulbs but I would run it on 12 to 14 AC,the bulbs will last longer. DC is OK but there is no advantage and bulbs may not last quite as long.

Or bite the bullet and convert it to LED lighting before you put it on the layout. Will use much less wattage and LEDs should not need replacement.

I would run all lighting off a separate transformer if you have a lot of them, otherwise off the accessory tap. Make sure your bus size for wiring is adequate.

We use the 10 volt optput on the Z4000 for lights on the club layout. Great for street lights but not too good for buildings. You can tell the lights are on but the buildings do not light up like one would expect. Haven't had to replace a lamp in years. If I had it to do over again I would try to replace the building lamps with LED's. If you get the right ones they put out a lot of light and disperse it to. I like to use those from Christmas sets but there are others on the market.
