I have a large G scale collection with some MTH engines that contain Proto Sound 2.0.  I run everything in conventional mode at the moment and have not invested in a command control system at the moment.  I'm wondering if Proto Sound will work with a DCC system.  MTH website isn't clear, and I found on another forum, that some functions may work.  Does anyone have experience here?

Thank You.

If you decide to go DCC and start buying PS-3 engines, I can convert your PS-2 engines to PS-3 so they can run on DCC also.  Many 2 Rail and DCC operators are doing conversions, not only for the DCC, but polarity.  PS-3 can determine polarity and runs regardless of which rail has DCS.  No polarity switch or reversing engine on the track with PS-3.  G

The Detroit Model Railroad Club • 2 Rail Scale

MTH 3.0 Premier  - is now the most popular loco on the club layout, we can run them at home on a 3 - Rail Layout using MTH / DCS or at the club on a Scale, 2-Rail Layout using DCC. Must have scale wheels and remove the pick up rollers on 2 - rail scale.

Add Kadee Couplers, Metal

We use the following, to operate MTH 3.0 Primer locos with DCC. • Engine Driver for a Smart Device and WiThrottle for a iPhone or iPad.

Check out these links for, using MTH / DCC with WiFi

Below is page 73 of The MTH Catalog / 2016 Vol. 2 / This explains how it works.

Imagine that! 6 months ago I remember you grumbling and speaking out that it was not worth the time nor $$$ to convert from PS2 to PS3 as there was no real advantage...how times have changed!! Getting a bit hungry??

I think you have the wrong person, or you have it out of context.  So not sure why you are trying to pick a fight.  Too much idle time?  I certainly would say there is not much benefit for a 3 Railer running DCS to convert a PS-2 to PS-3 just because.

I have always pointed out the advantages of PS-3 for 2 rail and DC and DCC operations.   G

Casey, over the years GGG has helped dozens and dozens of people on this forum (including me) with free advice on troubleshooting or repairing their trains. Let's have a little respect for one of the good guys on this forum.

What was probably said (just my guess I wasn't there) was that the upgrade isn't worth it for the typical 3 Railer. It would cost the person over $200 and all they really get for their money is they lose the battery. If I was a 3 Railer I would not upgrade to PS3 unless there was some sort of issue with the locomotive.

All opinion.
