Hi all, I have an MTH #30-20622-1 Baltimore & Ohio E-8 AA Diesel Engine Set w/Proto-Sound 3.0 with a shorting issue I believe. There is a 4 pin wire that goes between the engine and the "dummy" unit I guess to provide power to the reverse lights. When the wire is attached securely there is a loud hum that comes from the power supply and the entire layout shuts down. When I remove the wired connection between the 2, everything runs as designed and there is no loud hum and no shutdown. Anyone have an idea as to what it could be or how to fix this issue. Running it all as a DCS system with TIU if thats anything. Thanks.

The short is going to be in the dummy. If the powered unit runs fine without it then Pull the shell off the dummy and look at the places where the tether is held down (usually on top of the truck), sometimes to the top of the frame inside, and see if it looks pinched. You will probably need an ohmmeter to figure out which wire is bad, because the wire break is going to be on one of the wires inside the black jacket.
