....I received this for Christmas and am looking to install it. However, it appears the truck needs to be attached via the topside screw, meaning it requires a certain freight car that would allow this to work? Am I missing something or making this more complicated than it really is? Any suggestions as to certain cars that would work well with this? Thanks....

Judging from the screw insert, this would have to be attached working down through the body of the frame?
It fits on any MTH freight cars I have seen, but you have unscrew several screws on the bottom of the car to remove the car body from the base. Then you can get to the top screw. For example, the photo below is of the bottom of a coalporter. This shows one of the four screws that holds the car body to the base. There are two that flank each truck.
MTH Premier Tank cars are the most tricky to take apart to change the truck if a person has to do it by guessing.
Before attempting to take apart an MTH Premier tank car, someone would need an exploded view diagram.
Could you post the part number of the car you would like to add the ETD to?
I haven’t decided on what car I’m going to put this on. Ideally, I’d like to select one that’s relatively easy to do.
I just added several to a premier tanker and spine car, it was not too difficult but the boxcars definitely are much easier.
I found once I attached the ETD, the pick-up roller assembly made the task even more challenging of getting the screw back in. I agree with Falconservice's comment on Premier tank cars. They are probably the worst to figure out how to disassemble.
