I just finally updated my TIU and DCS remote after waiting a long time by being intimidated by the very confusing complicated method from MTH

Then i became brave and tried to figure out the enigma of sound files for engines.  I picked the cheapest starter set Steam engine PRR 4-6-0  9943 and found a Berkshire file and downloaded it to my computer  in my download folder.  then when i started the DCS downloader and it was not showing up there even when I went to check from a different way it was there?   so I copied and pasted the MTH file  not the zip file and then i downloaded it.

Then when it was finished  This extremely loud annoying shhhhhhhhhhhh   sound came from the train speaker.  I tried a different sound file and its worse now,  it wont go into forward or reverse.  i hope I didn't destroy the engine.  they make it sound like 1 2 3 and you done.  well my engine is     why cant the downloaded files show up when you try to download them and why did this happen?  i now have a useless engine and a night of frustration.

I didnt save the original sound file so I cant even put it back.  most of the engines don't give you the file  just a page of HTML language

If anyone can tell me how to get out of this mess and recover my engine i would be grateful.  I did delete the engine and add it back and its the same

Erics trains has a great instructional video on this, but you must follow the instructions on the MTH downloader screens to the letter!

When you go to the MTH web site do not left click and open the sound file, instead right click and go to save file or save target as, and save it to a folder.

Pay attention to where it goes.  Default is usually a download folder for newer operating systems.

When you go to load the SF, you can chose which folder to get it from.  Select the one you put the SF in.

Depending on your PS-2 board type controls what sound files.  5V files can only go into 5V boards.  3V files, or upgraded 5V files that have been converted to 3V files by MTH (those are the ones listed as Upgrade) can be loaded into 3V boards.

The only other limit, is the very latest PS-2 3V sound files that may be bigger then 1Meg file size can only be loaded into 3V boards with 2meg memory.  You can see the size of the file in the details of your folder.  Loader will stop you from making mistakes on this.

Don't mess with PS-3 files until you can get this down on PS-2 boards.  G
